The last day of May
Hello everyone. Well, today was another busy day. Maddie was up and out the door by 7:30 to go to daycamp at the YMCA. They were going to play at Veteran's Park part of the day so she was looking forward to that. Adam spent from 8 am until about 3 pm picking up rocks with a crew of helpers. I watched Brennan this morning and then when his mom came to pick him up the boys and I went out to play. It was REALLY hot outside today. I thought that the boys might like it if I got their baby pool out and filled it with some water. Of course, being a "stupid mom" I thought that telling my 1 and 2 year olds that they could fill their pails up with water, but could not get into the pool because the water was quite cold. Yeah, that did not work...I found Kinnick leaning over the pool and lapping up the water like a dog. And then I found Carter sitting right in the middle of the pool (with all of his clothes and shoes on) playing with his John Deere combine. What a riot! Needless to say, they were both soaking wet and there was not much left of the water in the pool by the time they were done playing in it. They had alot of fun, so that is what matters. Maddie got her hair cut at 4 pm and then when she got home it was time to go to Whittemore Days again. All was good until we went to watch Maddie in the pedal tractor pull. Carter was not old enough to do it. He cried and cried and cried because he wanted to ride a tractor too. I mean he really cried alot. When it was over we went to go on some more rides and he still cried and cried, so we came home. He and Kinnick are in bed and Maddie and I are going to stay up until 10 and watch the news. Tomorrow we go to Des Moines for the appointment with the cardiologist for Adam. We will hopefully have some answers after tomorrow and can figure out what we do next. I will tell you what I know tomorrow night. Love to all, Steph

Very Busy Tuesday!
Hi! Well, today I started my new "job". Brennan arrived this morning a little after 7 am. He is adorable and was a great baby. Carter really liked him and even wanted to hold him. Jody picked him up shortly after 12 pm because she is working half days this week. Carter spent most of the afternoon outside playing with Kinnick. They love to play with their little plastic watering cans. They water my flowers for me. Maddie had day camp at the YMCA all day and then she had t-ball practice from 5:30 to 6:30. Then it was up to Whittemore Days for some legion burgers and carnival rides. The kids loved the rides and were upset when we had to come home. We get to go back tomorrow night for some more fun. I am sure that Carter will be asking me about it all day long. I am attaching some video clips from tonight and also some pictures!

Memorial Day 2006
Good evening! Well it is almost 9pm on Monday night and I am tired. We spent the weekend in Des Moines and of course when we are away from home the kids just don't seem to sleep like they do here at home. It was great to see everyone, but it is always nice to get back home. My day started at 5 am when Carter decided he was not tired anymore and wanted to get up and watch toonies on TV. It was around 9 am when the rest of the family got up. Once we all got showered and ready for the day we went out to eat at a Mexican restaurant. Warren bought lunch for all of us, so how could we pass it up? It was good food! After lunch we went back to the house and started packing up to come home. It sure does take alot of stuff to go spend three nights away from home! As we were packing up Carter was playing the piano, which he kept calling a pee-ann-ee-oo. It is so cute when he says it! Uncle Bill was here to visit from Hawaii and of course bought the kids presents and spoiled them! They really like him alot and we wish we could see him more often! I am going to post a video from the weekend for you to watch!
Tomorrow I will begin to do daycare for a friend of mine. Brennan will be spending Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays with us. He is just over a month old and his mom is going back to work. I am really looking forward to it, and it will help us to get some extra income. It is temporary until the daycare provider in Algona gets an opening. So, I will have my hands full, and Maddie, my biggest helper, will be spending most of her summer going to daycamp at the YMCA. She will get to spend the summer doing things with other kids her age and not be tied down with her brothers and I. It is just really hard to take my two boys places by myself, so this will give Maddie the chance to swim, go on field trips, and meet new friends. She is really excited about it! Tomorrow is her first day to go and she can't wait!
Hope that you all had a nice and fun and safe weekend! Love, Steph

Hi to all
It is Sunday afternoon and boy is it hot outside. We were out and about this morning and we would just sweat walking to the car from the store. Tonight we are having a cookout with Adam's family again and so that should be lots of fun! Last night there were some musicians that came over and played for us out on the deck at Aunt Jojo's. Maddie even got out her guitar and played too. It was a blast. I will send some pictures for you to see when we get back home. Sorry this is so short, but I can hear that Adam needs my help with Kinnick. More tomorrow!

It's the weekend!
Hello to all! Well the weekend is finally here! We traveled to Des Moines yesterday afternoon to spend the weekend at Aunt JoJo's house. Uncle Bill is here visiting from Hawaii. We don't get to see him that often so we thought we would come down. A bunch of people are coming from Carroll today too, so we will have quite the group by supper tonight. It is rainy outside and so Carter is not very happy. He wants to go out and sit on the John Deere lawn mower. That is what he did for the first 3 hours we were here yesterday. He just never gets tired of it! Well, sorry this is so short, but I need to get Kinnick to take a nap. Love to all! Stephanie

Almost FRIDAY!
Hi again! Well, where do I start? Yesterday Maddie had a dental appointment and we found out that she has 3 cavities, needs one tooth pulled, and also needs to see an Orthodontist in Spencer. Her baby teeth have been terrible with cavities and the dentist thinks that her permanent teeth don't look much better. We really have to watch her pop and candy intake to try and keep them as healthy as we can. I guess that some people just have teeth that give them alot of problems. NOT FUN! After her dental appointment she had to go and get t-ball pictures taken at the ball diamond in Whittemore. I put her hair in a ponytail and of course she did not like that at all. It was really windy out and I did not want her hair blowing in her face for the pictures. When she was done with pictures I took her to mom's so that she could spend the night. They went to the movies to see Over the Hedge. Maddie said it was good. She hung out with Grandma all day. They went to a hair appointment, went out for lunch, and then did a little shopping at K-Mart and Fareway. I told her to call me when she was ready to come home, but at 4:30 pm I still had not heard anything from her. Imagine that? The rain subsided and the boys were able to go outside and I decided to let them each have a bomb pop. Let me tell you something...those things really turn kids colors. They were red, orange and green when they were done eating them. I washed their faces, but you could still see the color. Next time I will just let them eat in their diapers. After we cleaned up I loaded the boys in the suburban and we went to the Catholic cemetary to put flowers out for Grandpa and Grandma. Next we were headed to the Lutheran cemetary to check on the wreaths I had put out two days ago. It has been really windy here and I wanted to make sure they were okay. On our way through town we saw Maddie and Grandma playing catch at the ball diamond, so we pulled over to chat with them. Carter was so excited to see Maddie. He really missed her all day long. Maddie, of course, did not want to come home. I think she would move in with Grandpa and Grandma if I let her. Not much else happening here. I should go and get some studying done since all the kids are in bed. Love to all, Steph
P.S. If you watched the finale of American Idol last night I want to know if you found it funny when David Hasselhoff (from Knight Rider, one of my favorite shows as a kid) was crying because Taylor Hicks won???? Adam could not stop laughing. We have TIVO and he watched that part again and he paused it on David Hasselhoff and he laughed some more.

What a BEAUTIFUL day!
Hi everybody! Today was a wonderful day. We spent most of it outdoors. Maddie got up and off to school for her last FULL day of 2nd grade. Tomorrow she goes until 12:45 and then she is done for the summer! I spent most of my morning catching up on what got pushed aside last week. Then I had to do some rearranging of things in my kitchen to accomodate the beautiful plants we brought home from the funeral last week. Of course I cannot put them in my living room because Kinnick is the human vacuum cleaner and eats whatever he finds. Adam spent the morning planting the test plot we have with the elevator. That was the last of the planting for this spring. Carter was pretty bummed that the planter had to go into the shed. After lunch the boys and I went outside and played. I found some toys from last summer that had been in the garage all winter. I had Adam spray them off so that the boys could play with them. Carter was excited about the tee we found so that he can play baseball too! Adam and I decided to move our landscaping pavers. What a project! They were HEAVY and there were alot of them! After we got them all picked up we planted seed to fill in with grass. By the time we were done with all of this it was almost 7:00. We decided to buzz over to Algona and eat at Subway and then go to get groceries. When we got home at 8:45 the kids were all ready for bed. Or so we thought. Kinnick went to bed but ended up coming back downstairs. Guess he got his second wind. He is still up running around the living room saying Ga ga ga ga ga. That is his favorite word by the way. Well, I suppose I should go unload the dishwasher and see if I can get Kinnick to sleep. Take care! Steph and family

Weekend in Carroll
I can't believe that it is Sunday night already! Where did the weekend go? We took off for Carroll on Friday afternoon by picking Maddie up from school around 2:30 and heading out of town. When we got to Carroll we unloaded all of our things at Grandpa Sullivan's house. He was out of town fishing, so we had the house to ourselves. We called Jayne (Adam's mom) and her husband Doug to let them know that we were in town and they came over to the house to see us. We went out for supper and then back to the house. Adam and I decided to go visit Grandpa Adkins at the hospital. He looked really good and seemed to be feeling better. That was a relief.
On Saturday morning we all hung out at the house and let the kids play outside because it was just beautiful. We went to a mexican restaurant for lunch and then Maddie went with Grandma Jayne and Papa Doug to do some shopping and to visit Grandpa Adkins at the hospital. When they got there he was getting dressed to go home. That was good news! Adam and I went to the cemetary where Grandma Sullivan is buried and we put a wreath out for Memorial Day. The kids spent most of the afternoon outside playing softball, blowing bubbles, and Carter sat on the mower in the garage alot too! We ordered pizza for supper and brought it to the house to eat. After supper Maddie told us that she had a suprise for us all. She got out a snowcone maker that Grandma Jayne and Papa Doug bought for her when they were shopping. So we all got to eat a snowcone.
Today we got up and Grandma Jayne made breakfast for all of us. We had eggs, bacon, toast, ham, french toast and hashbrowns. It was YUMMY! After that we got everything all loaded up and we went over to visit Grandpa Adkins before we came home. It was a fun weekend, but I am happy to be back home and get the kids back into their normal routine. Last week was just hectic and crazy.

Good morning! Well, it has been a rough week for us to say the least. We attended the funeral for Adam's grandma yesterday and emotions were all over the place. It was nice to see family that I have not seen since our wedding day. And I also had the chance to meet some people I had not met before. The service was very nice and we gathered for a lunch in the church basement when it was over. Grandma is being creamated and the family will gather again at a later date and will have her buried in Council Bluffs. Thank you to our family and friends who have helped us to get through this difficult time. Please continue to pray for Grandpa Adkins as he is still in ICU. We are heading to Carroll again today and plan to spend the weekend down there to be with family and go to visit Grandpa at the hospital.
Not too much else happening here with us. I won't get anything posted for you to read tomorrow, but will tell you about our weekend when I get home Sunday night.
Love to all,

More news about Grandpa Adkins
Hello everyone. Sorry that I did not get anything out for you to read yesterday. We were in Carroll for the wake. We are headed back down today for the funeral. Adam's grandpa was supposed to be dismissed from the hospital yesterday but he came down with pneumonia and will have to be treated for that. He only has one lung so they want to watch him closely. They are also con erned because his heart keeps "reving" up. The heart doctor can't treat him for this condition until the pneumonia is cleared up. They had thought that his heart problem was fixed with the medication the doctor put him on, but that is not the case. He was not able to be at the wake and he will not be at the funeral today either. Will keep you posted as I know more.
Adam is really having a hard time dealing with all of this. He puts on a happy face when he is with people but then he breaks down when he is alone. He told me this last night finally. He says it is just killing him to face all of this. It has been a tough week and I just ask that you keep him in your thoughts also.
Well, I should get things in order for us to take off today. Have a great day! Love, Steph and fam

What happened yesterday....
Good Morning. Today is Wednesday but I am going to write about our day yesterday. We got a phone call from Adam's mom telling us that his Grandpa Adkins had been taken to the hospital and admitted to ICU because they found that he had suffered a minor heart attack. They called in a specialist from the Iowa Heart Hospital to monitor him. Tests showed that the top part of his heart was working harder than the bottom half and that was causing the problem. They were able to put medication into his IV and it immediately reversed the problem. So that was a relief, no surgery necessary. He will be able to take a pill each day that will keep this problem under control. The doctor decided to monitor him overnight and if all went well he would be dismissed sometime today.
The boys and I played outside for about an hour. The weather was warm even though it was a little windy. They just love being outside and they both cry when it is time to come inside.
Adam had a doctor appointment yesterday afternoon to get the results of some tests he had done a few weeks ago. He went to see his neurologist at Mayo Clinic last month because of the migraines he has been experiencing and when he was at that appointment they discovered that his blood pressure was elevated. He has been monitoring his blood pressure since then and has also seen the local physician to have it looked into. He had an ultrasound done on his heart and also had some blood work done. We went yesterday to get his results. Our physician told him that he has high cholesterol (good cholesterol - triglycerides) and he needs to more carefully monitor his diet and also needs to exercise. He was told that his ultrasound showed some problems and so now we will have to see a cardiologist from Mason City. They want to figure out what is causing the shortness of breath that Adam always seems to have. We were so shocked and stunned that we did not know what questions to ask. Hopefully the cadiologist will be able to get us the answers to the questions we have.
While we were at the doctor she looked at Kinnick's head and she sees alot of improvement in the shape. She had me schedule an appointment in 4 weeks and she hopes that he will be able to stop wearing the band then. We hope so too!
I suppose I should start getting things ready for the trip to Carroll today for the visitation for Adam's grandma. Have a good day!

Don't you just love Mondays???
Hi to all! Today I cleaned and cleaned and then cleaned some more! Carter is quite the little helper when it comes to cleaning too! If it involves water then he likes it all the more! I hosted a Pampered Chef party tonight at my house. I was helping a girlfriend of mine that is just starting out and she did a wonderful job! There was a lot of chaos because there were a lot of little ones attending the party also. There were toddlers everywhere and they were busy little people. It was a fun time and the food she prepared was great! Sorry this is so short tonight, but I am going to sit down and relax for a while before I head off to bed!

Happy Mother's Day!
Happy Mother's Day!
Today was a relaxing day for us. Of course, we got the news this morning that Adam's grandma had passed away during the night, but it was a blessing as she was not going to get better. We found out this afternoon that her visitation will be held Wednesday night between 5:00 and 8:30 pm at the Dahn & Woodhouse funeral home in Carroll. The funeral will be at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church.
We went out for brunch with my mom and dad, along with Brad, Nicole and Jordan. We spent the afternoon hanging out at home. I went to K-Mart to pick up a few things and then came home. Adam went out to the field after supper and I got the kids to bed for the night!
Well, I suppose I should get some studying done before I go to bed since the house is quiet!
Love to all!

Grandma Adkins
Happy Mother's Day everyone! Just a quick note this morning to let you know that Grandma Adkins, or as Adam used to call her, Grandma Napkins, passed away this morning at about 3:30. We were told that it was very peaceful for her. We told our kids that Grandma Adkins is an angel in heaven now. The first thing that Carter said was "grandma drive tractor in heaven" which means that when it thunders the angels in heaven are drving their tractors. That is how we explain the noise of thunder to Carter. And Maddie says that thunder is the angels in heaven going bowling. Anyway you look at it we know that Grandma Adkins is an angel in heaven now.

Hello. Today was a long day for us. Adam decided this morning that he wanted to go to visit his grandma in the hospital in Carroll. She is sick and is not going to get better this time. All of her children arrived yesterday to see her and they are staying with her until she passes. She was moved out of intensive care and into a private hospital room so that we could all be with her. Adam is the only grandchild on that side of the family and so our children are the only great-grandchildren. She was unconscious and being made comfortable with morpheine. They took her off life support today so it is just a matter of time now before she dies. It was really hard for Adam, but I think he is glad that we did make the trip down to see her. The doctors do not believe that she will make it though tonight and we pray that she passes quickly so she does not suffer anymore. Anyway, I just wanted to bring all of you up to speed on what was happening.

Hi! Well, it's finally Friday and it is late now and so this is going to be short and sweet. Carter got to ride with Adam today in the tractor while Kinnick and I went to Algona to get some groceries. He loved it and it made shopping a little less stressful for me. Maddie is having a friend spend the night and so she has been playing and having fun with that. They put nail polish on each other and makeup and they even did each others hair. Now I just have to get them to settle down and get ready for bed. Hope that you all have a super weekend. It sounds like the weather is supposed to be cruddy and cold here, so I imagine we will spend the majority of it indoors. Love, Steph and Family

Letter from Kinnick
Heddo evweewon! Id is me Kinnick. Mommy said dat I could write to you dis time. Today is Dursday and me and Carder and Mommy played all day long. We watched a new show dis morning called Mickey Mouse Cwubhouse. It was a good show. Carder weally liked it alot. It was too windy for us to go outside and play. Mommy said dat it was so windy dat Maddie should put rocks in her pocket so dat she did not blow away. I got to eat ravioli for supper and I got weally messy. Dere was even ravioli in my hair and inside my ears. Mommy dook me from my highchair and put me right in da bafftub. Dat was okay cuz I weally wike to dake a baff. Carder got to take da baff wiff me so dat was okay too.
Carder wikes to help Mommy wash my hair. He dinks its funny when he dumps da cup of water on my head. Our baff was kind of short cuz Mommy noticed dat Carder was twying to poop in da tub. She tried to sit him on da big potty but he did not wike it at all. As soon as Mommy got his diaper on he went poop. I guess it was a good idea to get out of da baff when we did. Mommies are so smart sometimes!
Mommy talked to Daddy on da phone and he told Mommy dat he is preddy sure dat Gwandma Jayne and Papa Doug are going to be coming home tomorrow because Great-Gwandma Adkins is in da hospital and she is weally getting weak. So I dink dat dey will be in Carroll for da weekend to visit her. Great Gwandpa said dat Gwandma is in intensive care so da only people who can visit her are her childwen and Great Gwandpa.
I suppose dat I should go to bed cuz I am weally sweepy.
Talk to you all later!

What a Wednesday
Hi to all! Well, it is Wednesday and we had quite a busy day! Carter, Kinnick and I went to Algona and met two gals I used to work with for lunch at the Family Table. It is always interesting taking the two boys to a restaurant because they are just so active. It was nice that I had two extra sets of hands to help me out! It was also nice to catch up with Kim and Missy. After lunch we went to K-Mart to pick up a few things that we needed and Carter decided that he did not want to ride in the cart. He wanted to walk. Well, that was a lot of fun. He picked out at least 10 graduation cards that he thought we should buy and threw them in the cart. He really liked to push the cart and Kinnick laughed when he did. It was pretty cute. Both boys fell asleep on the way home and I managed to get them in the house and into their beds without waking them up. That was nice. We had visitors come over to see us this afternoon. Jody and her new baby (3 weeks old) Brennan stopped over to visit. It was great to see them. It is crazy how fast children grow up. I cannot believe how tiny Brennan was and how big Kinnick looks to me now. He is not a baby anymore, he is turning into a toddler. After our visitors left the kids played outside for a little bit and then we came in the house to eat supper. After supper we watched Jonah, a Veggie Tales movie. It was cute and the kids all liked it. As I was getting the kids ready for bed Grandpa Adkins called me to give an update on how Grandma Adkins is doing. He really just needed someone to talk to and I was happy that he called. Grandma is in the hospital in Carroll and really is struggling to breathe. Please keep Adam's grandma in your prayers. Well, I suppose I should fold a load of laundry before bed. Love, Steph and family

Today is Tuesday
Hi again! Today was a georgeous day outside! After Maddie was up and off to school Carter found out that he was going to get to go to John Deere with Daddy! That made his day. He gets so excited when he gets to ride along with Adam! The two of them were gone most of the morning so that gave Kinnick some peace and quiet and he took a long nap. After lunch Grandpa decided to go and plant some beans and so we went out to the shed and watched Adam fill the bean wagon and get things ready to go. We spent most of the afternoon outside. Carter helped Grandma plant in the garden. He thinks that is fun. When Maddie got home from school she watched TV with Carter and they had a snack together. Then it was back outside to jump on the trampoline and ride the gator. After we all ate supper it was upstairs for bathtime. Carter and Kinnick love to take a bath. They play in the tub together and usually Carter dumps water on Kinnick's face and he gets upset with Carter for doing that. Neither one of them wants to get out when bath time is over. Carter will sit in the tub until the last drop of water goes down the drain and still not want to get out! Bedtime followed bathtime for all 3 of them. But after 25 minutes of listening to Carter yell he came back downstairs, along with Maddie who said she was "just helping him walk downstairs" and then Kinnick too because he heard me come in the room to get Carter who was yelling. So, at 9 pm Maddie and Kinnick finally went back upstairs and to bed. Carter decided that he wanted to lay on the couch and watch Dr Phil with me and it must have been boring because within 5 minutes he was out. He has not moved an inch. He was really tired. Speaking of tired, I am tired and it is 10:15 pm and although Adam is still in the field I really need to get to bed too! Talk to you again tomorrow!

Happy Monday!
Hello all! Happy Monday to you! My day started off by getting Maddie up and dressed and off to school. She gets herself ready for the mostpart. She is pretty self-sufficient. The bus picks her up at 7:30 a.m. and then drops her off at 4:00 p.m. The boys and I spend most of our morning watching TV and playing tractors. Carter bugged me all morning to go outside, but it is really windy today and so I got him to wait until I got Kinnick down for a nap after lunch. He really wanted to ride in the tractor with his daddy. So, we waited and waited and waited some more, but there was something wrong with one of the tractors and so daddy was fixing and Carter wanted to help do that, but daddy did not want help. Needless to say Carter got cranky and so we had to come in for a nap. Maybe he can go for a ride after supper tonight. Kinnick and Maddie are building legos right now and I am getting caught up on some computer related things. Not much else going on with us right now.
If any of you tried to view the video clip and it did not work, try it again because I think I fixed what I did wrong. I am new to this so you will just have to give me time to work through the kinks.
Have a super Monday night and I will talk to you all tomorrow!

Sunday - Jumping outside on the trampoline
Hello to all! Today is Sunday and the day started off with me (Steph) making a pan of cinnamon rolls for breakfast before we headed to 10:30 mass. I thought they were quite tasty, but Maddie did not like the frosting on them, and Adam decided he did not want to eat any. So, that meant more for me! Carter and Kinnick did not get any because that would have been too messy after the bath they took this morning. Off to mass at 10:30 and we just might have been the noisiest people there. Each time a song is over Carter looks at me and says all done? go home? It is cute and is hard not to laugh at him. He also told us that he tooted in church this morning, but I was lucky that it was just a whisper. We had the crowning of Mary at mass so Maddie and Carter got to take part in the procession for that. All of the children got to walk up in a procession for that and it was neat to see them take part. After church it was home for naps! Both the boys and mommy took a nap. Adam went to the fields to spray. After naps we went outside and spent two hours playing. The kids rode on the gator, played on the swingset, colored with sidewalk chalk, and jumped on the trampoline. We came back in the house and played legos. And then we watched Madagascar. We are having party pizza for supper right now and then it will be time to wind down and get ready for bed. Hope you all had a super weekend!

Welcome to our BLOG
Hello family and friends! This blog stuff is pretty new to me, but I am going to give it a try. Adam's brother, Joe, has been using a blog to update his family and friends, and I have found it is a very interesting way to keep everyone up to date on what is going on with our family. So, I hope that you all enjoy viewing this and I promise to get something posted each day for you to read. Let me know if you have any questions! Love, Steph and family
