What happened yesterday....

Good Morning. Today is Wednesday but I am going to write about our day yesterday. We got a phone call from Adam's mom telling us that his Grandpa Adkins had been taken to the hospital and admitted to ICU because they found that he had suffered a minor heart attack. They called in a specialist from the Iowa Heart Hospital to monitor him. Tests showed that the top part of his heart was working harder than the bottom half and that was causing the problem. They were able to put medication into his IV and it immediately reversed the problem. So that was a relief, no surgery necessary. He will be able to take a pill each day that will keep this problem under control. The doctor decided to monitor him overnight and if all went well he would be dismissed sometime today.

The boys and I played outside for about an hour. The weather was warm even though it was a little windy. They just love being outside and they both cry when it is time to come inside.

Adam had a doctor appointment yesterday afternoon to get the results of some tests he had done a few weeks ago. He went to see his neurologist at Mayo Clinic last month because of the migraines he has been experiencing and when he was at that appointment they discovered that his blood pressure was elevated. He has been monitoring his blood pressure since then and has also seen the local physician to have it looked into. He had an ultrasound done on his heart and also had some blood work done. We went yesterday to get his results. Our physician told him that he has high cholesterol (good cholesterol - triglycerides) and he needs to more carefully monitor his diet and also needs to exercise. He was told that his ultrasound showed some problems and so now we will have to see a cardiologist from Mason City. They want to figure out what is causing the shortness of breath that Adam always seems to have. We were so shocked and stunned that we did not know what questions to ask. Hopefully the cadiologist will be able to get us the answers to the questions we have.

While we were at the doctor she looked at Kinnick's head and she sees alot of improvement in the shape. She had me schedule an appointment in 4 weeks and she hopes that he will be able to stop wearing the band then. We hope so too!

I suppose I should start getting things ready for the trip to Carroll today for the visitation for Adam's grandma. Have a good day!

Love, Steph and family
